EU-China Youth Leaders Summit / Youth "Future Camp"
As the 2011 EU-China Year of Youth approaches its end, 200 EU and Chinese youth leaders gathered in Beijing to take stock of the outcomes of the Year and look at future challenges and opportunities. Over 2.5 days, the young participants engaged in challenging talks about the role of young people in an ageing society, the development of EU-China relations in a multipolar world, climate change and sustainable development as well as youth entrepreneurship and business leadership for the future.
Notre Dame and WeiYu High Schools exchange
Notre Dame has developed a link as part of the Norfolk - Xuhui Schools Partnership which has enabled a number of staff and students to visit Shanghai, experiencing life in a successful Chinese Secondary School and spending time with host families. Exchange visits have provided opportunities to learn basic Chinese, experience a different culture and share methods and approaches towards teaching and learning.
EU-China Forum on Youth Entrepreneurship
The EU-China Forum on Youth Entrepreneurship is intended to offer a space to youth representatives from the EU and China to explore and share concrete practices, experiences and challenges around the following topics: entrepreneurship education, promoting the development of entrepreneurial skills and mindsets, facilitating youth entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship. By sharing practices in these areas, the event shall aim at comparing situations, identifying inspiring practices from both sides and encouraging the development of a better understanding of respective realities and challenges for young people in the EU and China.
Visit to the Port of Antwerp
In the morning of 18 May, the Chinese delegates were hosted by the Antwerp Port Authorities for a visit to the Port of Antwerp, Europe's second largest port and the fourth largest in the world.
“Learn Local, Lead Global”- round table at Antwerp Management School
On the 18th of May, the Euro-China Center of Antwerp Management School successfully organized the “Learn Local, Lead Global”-round table in the context of the EU-China Year of Youth. The Chinese youth delegation visiting Europe at the occasion of the European Youth Week joined the round table together with more than 80 students from the Antwerp region and members of the Chinese press.
EU Youth Conference in Budapest
The primary aim of the EU Youth Conference held in Hungary between 2 and 4 March 2011 was to finalize the outcomes of the structured dialogue between young people and EU institutions that was implemented in the past one and a half year in Europe on the theme of youth employment. This dialogue between young people and European decision-makers consisted of three phases during the work of the Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio. The third phase was to be concluded during the EU Youth Conference organized by the Hungarian EU Presidency.
Opening of the EU-China Year of Youth in Beijing
23 February 2001 in Beijing Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening ceremony of the China-EU Year of Youth in Beijing on Wednesday, encouraging young people from China and the EU to build a brighter future for bilateral strategic partnerships. Joining over 500 young people from China and the EU in the Capital Museum in downtown Beijing, Wen Jiabao said that the year-long youth exchange campaign was the first theme year between China and the EU since the establishment of diplomatic ties, and is also the largest-ever China-EU cultural exchange program. A video speech from European Commission President Jose Manuel Barosso was aired at the ceremony. He said that the Year of Youth offers an interactive platform for European and Chinese young people to enhance mutual understanding and friendship and also inject vitality to China-EU relations.
Opening of the 2011 EU-China Year of Youth in Brussels
As more than 400 people, including 200 young people from all over the EU and China, filled up the room, the 2011 EU-China Year of Youth was officially launched at the European commission in Brussels by Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth and Wang Xiao, President of the All-China Youth Federation, in the presence of Miklós Soltész, Hungarian Minister of State responsible for Social, Family and Youth Affairs, of Ambassador Song Zhe, Head of the Mission of China to the EU and of German Olympic gold-medal winning fencer Britta Heidemann, one of the goodwill Ambassadors of the Year.
